Backlighting: Dog Photography 52 Week Project- Week 24

Charlotte NC Dog Photographer

Backlighting is the theme for week 24 of our dog photography 52 week project. The theme was announced at the end of last week on a day when I had a session scheduled so that night I was sure to take some shots with backlighting. My model Pearl was ready to call it quits at this point but I did ask her to pose a few more times because as the sun went down, it got prettier and prettier.

Since we live in the land of the trees in Charlotte, I was of course surrounded by them. We did get some nice sunlight streaming through them though. This last image above demonstrates how done my model was with me.  I believe in this scenario when a dog is licking her lips, she feels stressed or uncomfortable about something going on around them. That something was me and this was literally the last shot of her I took.

Speaking of pretty sunsets, this backlighting theme is appropriate for this week for me for another reason. I just announced my newest business venture:

Retreats by BARKography

After you're finished reading through everyone's posts in this blog circle, come back to my site and click on the brand new FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS tab. I am so excited to offer retreats to other dog loving photographers and the first one will happen in November in southern California where we will have an opportunity to use backlighting on the beach when we photograph puppies as the sun sets. Can you say silhouettes?

All the details are on the page which went went live this week. Intrigued? Interested? You can apply now before the limited number of spots are filled.

This is real. This is happening. Pinch me.

This is a blog circle and next up is Cynthia with Pets We Love Photography in Toronto. Be sure to click the link at the bottom of each post to see each photographer's backlighting images. These are bound to be awesome!
