Walk For Peach Charlotte NC

One lucky lady receiving a flower from a venerable monk on the Walk for Peace in Charlotte NC on January 14, 2026.

I rarely take photos unless a dog is involved but on January 14 - 15, 2026 I did.

The Walk for Peace was in Charlotte. They were spending the night at the Marion Diehl Recreation Center which is a mile from my house.

On Wednesday morning, I packed my camera in my car before my dog walks and I followed their route on the live map. I was hoping to catch up with them in the late afternoon as they made their way into Charlotte.

This became problematic because Wednesday January 14 was also the day of the Verizon outage. Around noon I lost my service and couldn’t follow them on the live map anymore.

I’d been following the monks for quite some time and reading about their mission. This was a walk for PEACE.

Finding your own inner-peace. Living through the ups and downs of life with peace in your heart.

When the outage hit and I finally realized what was going on, I thought of the monks and the message of peace they were spreading. It helped because I am a planner and my plan just got blown up because of the outage.

I didn’t know exactly where I could meet up with the monks.

I ended up on South Blvd near Sharon Lakes Road right at sunset with a bunch of other people also wanting to see them. I met some very nice people and enjoyed my conversations with them.

As the monks approached, there was excitement in the air but also calmness.

What surprised me was how fast they walk. I didn’t realize I’d have 1 minute to photograph them but that’s what I did. When I looked back at my photos, I took them all within a minute. Just like that they were past me.
