I love dog smiles. Dogs that smile when I point my camera at them. But what do I mean when I ask does your dog smile?

Do you celebrate your dog’s Gotcha Day? i.e. the day you brought him/her home? We do in my house.

October 2, 2014 is the day we brought Moose home. He was an owner surrender to Lab Rescue of NC (LRNC) in early 2014. I drove to Winston-Salem and picked him up from his foster home. He was 7.

This is a blog post for the 52 week pet photography project. We are a group of dog photographers from around the world who are given a subject and we write a blog and post photos about the topic.

This week the topic is “doors.” I immediately thought of photographing dogs in front of doors but then this thought occurred to me. My dogs are the door to my heart. If you’re reading this, your dogs are probably the door to your heart too.

Photographing black dogs can be tough. Taking a great, frame worthy photo of a black dog can be really hard. Understanding lighting is the key.

Photographing happy dogs is one of my favorite parts of my job. How do I capture photos of dogs looking happy? It's not always as easy as it sounds.
