Model Call Dog Photos in the Southpark area of Charlotte NC

I love urban photography. Include a dog and I really looove it! When the dogs include a lanky doodle puppy that is all legs, a fluffy, gorgeous golden retriever, and a smiley Australian cattle dog you know I’m in heaven. All 3 of these dogs were incredible models.

I got out and did some urban dog photography this week because our blog circle topic is “Out and About in the City.”

Urban Photos

One of the many reasons why I love urban photography is because of the variety in the photos. All of these photos were taken at Piedmont Row, a mixed use development near Southpark Mall in Charlotte.

There are condos, restaurants such as Del Frisco’s and Peppervine, and a gym, the Harris Express YMCA (which I should personally frequent more than I do. I have a membership. It’s less than a mile from my house…)

Another I love about urban photos: the buildings have signage that helps to create interesting lighting and colors in the background. There are usually nice flower beds and other cool plants around too.

Dog Models

I also decided to find some new models to photograph. I look for dog models when I’m doing commercial work and I prefer to work with dogs I know so that I have an idea of how they’ll be at the photo shoot. I thought this would be a great chance to meet a few new dogs to possibly keep in mind for future commercial pet photography projects.

As it turns out, that was a great plan. I now have 3 new dogs to call on when my next commercial project comes up.

This is Hunter. Some of you know have seen his dad Ace here and on my Instagram. My guess is you’ll see Hunter again too. He has a new younger sister named Piper that his mom assured me is learning how to sit so you will probably see her here at some point too.

Dog Model Calls

I posted a model call on my Instagram page. I usually have pretty good response. The three dogs featured here are the three I chose from my most recent model call.

For local Charlotte NC dog moms and dog dads who are interested in your dog becoming a model, follow my instagram page. I usually post my model calls there. To ensure that you see my posts, from your cellphone go to my page, click on “Following” in the middle of the page and then click Add To Favorites.

This is Charlie. He’s a year-ish old and so fun. He was on leash the entire time (all of the dogs were.) Here’s an example of a photo with the leash still on and in all of the other photos, I’ve removed the leash.

For any photographers who are reading this, if you’re interested in reading my model call post here it is: Model Call on Instagram. I’m pretty specific. (*Here’s another tip though: to help with the Instagram algorithm, I should’ve asked everyone who was interested to comment on my post instead of asking them to comment or email me. The more comments the better on Insta.)

Since I am also doing the Unleashed Education Emerge challenges, I needed to take a photo for that too. #winwin

The Emerge challenge that I needed a photo for was Mirror Mirror. Basically, I needed to take a photo of a dog and his reflection. I don’t live near water so I needed to find another option.

This was taken just outside of Del Frisco’s. Colt the Australian Cattle Dog is posing beside a black marble pillar and the sun helped throw his shadow on the marble. Before meeting him, I didn’t know where or how I was going to get a photo to submit. This might not be the best photo I’ve ever taken but I am pretty darn proud that I was able to envision it and create it. Sometimes I even surprise myself. ha!

Colt was the oldest dog I photographed and the amount of time his mom has spent training him was evident.

Thank you so much to Hunter, Charlie and Colt. You three totally rocked this!

This is a blog circle and next up is Ina Jalil of Ina J Photography showcasing some urban photos of dogs in the Canberra CBD featured in her Tails of Canberra book. Be sure to click the link at the bottom of each post and you’ll end up back when you’re done. Enjoy seeing all the cute doggos.
