Top 5 Best Locations for Photos in Charlotte

Charlotte has quite a few locations I like to use for my photoshoots so I thought I’d put a list together with my top 5.

  1. Confetti Hearts Wall

  2. Bush N Vine Farm

  3. Sunflower fields

  4. My studio

  5. Freedom Park

My most favorite is Evelyn Henson’s confetti hearts wall. If you’ve looked through my website and Instagram page, you know my photography is colorful, bright and cheerful so this wall fits perfectly with my style.

The wall is located in SouthEnd near Jeni’s Ice Cream. The first dog I photographed here was my dog Moose in January 2019. I’d love to plan mini-sessions here. Anyone game?

My second favorite location is Bush N Vine farm in York, SC. I guess technically not Charlotte but Charlotte-ish. I’ve only been during the peach blossom season but I’d love to go other times of the year too. This gorgeous standard poodle boy is Julian.

I photographed Moose here this year and created some of my favorite photos of him that I’ve ever taken. The trees typically bloom in March.

Next on the list are the sunflower fields. They bloom in the summer months. Their window of time for blooming is very short. It’s a challenge to shoot in them because the blooms grow facing the sun. (Makes sense right?) So, to get nice light that isn’t really harsh and bright means you need to get there early in the morning or plan to be there just before sunset.

The other perhaps even more challenging aspect is their height. Photographing short dogs in them can be really hard. Even Dublin was shorter than some of them and he’s a tall great dane!

The next location in my top 5 is a surprise even to me but just look! Photographing dogs in my own studio is so much fun. I love doing it but I will say, studio photography isn’t for all dogs. Fearful or really shy dogs won’t have a lot of room to move around and I can’t distance myself from them too much like I can outdoors. Patience from the pet parents is really key too!

Who else loves puppies?

Rounding out my Top 5 is Freedom Park. There is so much variety at the park, I love being able to utilize the various backgrounds from the flowers, lake and the stone bridge.

This is Sophie and she was probably one of the most energetic dogs I’ve ever photographed. She was on leash the entire time… otherwise she would’ve been in the lake chasing the ducks!

I was a bit worried if I’d gotten any photos of her because she literally would not hold still but this turned out to be one of my favorite photoshoots in 2019. #patiencewins

Here’s my disclaimer: my top 5 locations will probably change. They might change soon. I had a hard time narrowing this down to just 5 spots.

The bottom line is Charlotte has lots of options for photos!
