Corona del Mar California or the "crown of the sea" is a beautiful quaint village in southern California nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Pacific Coast Highway. Known for its flower streets, it is 7 miles from the Santa Ana / John Wayne airport (SNA.) Huntington Dog Beach is 9 miles north. Laguna Beach and the 7 mile drive to get there from Corona del Mar will take your breath away.
Restaurants, shops and the Pacific Ocean are all within walking distance. From Corona del Mar Beach, you can view amazing sunsets or watch surfers attack "The Wedge" an internationally famous surfing spot with waves up to 30'. My name is Kim and I lived in Corona del Mar for 3 years. It is my heaven on earth and I want to share it with you.
I am combining three of the things I love most in the world: travel, photography and dogs and creating an experience for other photographers who share similar interests. These retreats are for photographers who want to collaborate with other small business owners and learn from each other. Spending time with other like-minded dog loving photographers in a gorgeous location might just change your life. It changed mine.
You may never want to leave.
Saturday 10/28: Arrive anytime after 9am. The first photo session will start at 3:30pm (sunset is at 5:58pm.)
Sunday 10/29: Early morning golden hour photo session. Edit photos and discuss editing techniques. Golden hour photo session at Huntington Dog Beach.
Monday 10/30: Brainstorming and round table discussions. Golden hour / sunset photo shoot with dogs from a local shelter.
Tuesday 10/31: Early morning golden hour photo session for those who don't have to leave early. Attendees can spend the entire day in CDM. Departure by 4pm.

The Santa Ana airport (SNA) is 7 miles away.
Los Angeles Airport (LAX) is 50 miles or San Diego (SAN) is 85 miles.
If arriving via LAX or San Diego, renting a car and driving is advised. **NOTE: Drive time from LAX or SAN will vary greatly based upon traffic and time of day and could take 1-3 hours. Street parking is available in Corona del Mar.
For those driving, street side parking is available at no cost.
What is the cost: Please inquire for cost information.
Who is qualified to attend: Attendees should be photographers who have a solid working knowledge of using a DSLR. Knowledge of either Lightroom CC and/or Photoshop CC will help you get the most out of the retreat. Future retreats may include other skill levels.
What makes this retreat different: The retreat is all about being around other like-minded, dog loving photographers in a relaxed setting. The focus is on the dog photography sessions, evaluating the photos after the sessions and editing your photos. You can compare your shooting style to the other photographers during the sessions and if you'd like, share your images with the others to see how they'd edit them. The round tables will be about topics you wish to discuss.
What are the round table discussions: All attendees are encouraged to suggest topics and the topics will depend upon the suggestions received. Topics could include: best sounds / noise makers you prefer to use, how to work with different dog personalities such as timid, overly-energetic, or geriatric dogs, ways to have the dog owner help during the session, what are your favorite products to sell, who are your favorite vendors, what is the best thing you've learned in PS and in LR, etc.
What do I need to bring: Your camera gear and a laptop with Lightroom and Photoshop. Shoes for photographing on the beach and in the surf.
If I live in the area, can I join the group during the day. No, one of the greatest parts of the experience is staying in the house with everyone.
What costs are covered: The cost of the retreat covers your housing, transportation during the retreat and meals. Alcohol is not provided.
How do I get to the retreat: Transportation to southern CA and to the house is your responsibility. Santa Ana / John Wayne Airport (SNA) is 7 miles from the house. For those flying into LAX or San Diego, you will need to book a taxi / car service or rent a car.
How many attendees are there: There will be a maximum of 4 photographers.
Will I have to share a bedroom: The house has 3 bedrooms. One of the bedrooms has twin beds so 2 people will share a room. The other rooms have queen beds. There are 2 hallway bathrooms.
How many photography sessions will there be? Four sessions are scheduled between Thursday and Saturday. For those who don't have to leave early on Sunday there will be a 5th session. There will be multiple dogs at each session.
Can I bring my spouse: No this retreat is for the photographers only.
How are we helping local rescued dogs: We will be photographing dogs that are up for adoption and are looking for their forever homes. We'll provide the images to the rescue to post online.
Do I need a car: No. Transportation is provided during the retreat and everything you need is in walking distance of the house including restaurants, stores and the beach. If you would like to do sightseeing or have the flexiblity of having your own car, street parking is available near the house.
What type of meals are provided: A local personal chef is preparing the meals. Attendees will receive an email about meals so we can tailor the menus to your liking. Food allergies and dietary requests will be worked into the menus.
Are all meals provided: All meals starting with dinner on Thursday evening through breakfast Sunday morning are provided. Grocery stores and a wide variety of restaurants are within walking distance too.
Will there be strenuous activities: Corona del Mar is perched on a cliffside. Climbing steep stairs is required to get down to the beach. Attendees should be able to walk, climb, bend and stoop. The house is 2 levels and does require climbing stairs to reach the bedrooms and bathrooms.
What if the weather is bad: SoCal weather is pretty consistently beautiful but we can move sessions around if necessary. No refunds are given if the weather causes us to cancel our outdoor photo sessions.

What if I want to stay in the area longer: Southern CA has a lot to offer if you want to explore the area on your own before or after the retreat. You can take the ferry to Catalina Island. Walk around Balboa Island. Take a Newport Beach boat tour. Explore Laguna Beach. Shop at Fashion Island. Go to Disneyland. Go to Los Angeles and expore Rodeo Drive, Hollywood Blvd, the Santa Monica Pier. The options are endless.
